Councilwoman Paltin seeks re-election
WAILUKU – West Maui County Councilmember Tamara Paltin recently filed nomination papers to run for her second two-year term on the Maui County Council.
Paltin said, “There were many important matters that came before the council, but I’m really glad that I helped secure Hanakao’o Beach Park as a community area free of commercial activities, so our Lahaina people can recreate in the county area with their families.”
Elected in 2018, Paltin’s freshman term was a steep learning curve, made easier by the community engagement she had dedicated herself to throughout previous years.
Paltin said, “I gained more invaluable knowledge of planning and land use as the committee chair for Planning & Sustainable Land Use, all of which has helped not only my committee but the West Maui Community Plan Update process.”
Paltin and her staff have attended the community plan update meetings without fail since being elected, but the councilmember has been a part of the process since it began in 2017.
In the year since she took office, Paltin has had the chance to recognize the Lahainaluna High School football team’s Division II championship via ceremonial resolution, deliberated on the approval of administrative directors and advocated for county improvements through the budget process, amongst a plethora of other issues.
