Actor JD Walsh to host Improv Master Class and showcase on Maui

JD Walsh is no stranger to the global stage, having conducted improv intensives in various iconic locations such as New Zealand, the Globe Theater, Los Angeles, and New York City.
KIHEI — Hollywood actor and improvisation leader JD Walsh, recognized for his roles in hit shows like “Two and a Half Men,” “Kominsky Method,” and the blockbuster film “Spiderman,” is set to grace Maui with his improvisation Masterclass Nov. 16-18. The event will culminate in a celebrity showcase on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at the ProArts Playhouse in Kihei.
His approach to improvisation goes beyond mere quick-witted banter, advocating for a methodology that embraces patience, risk-taking and heartfelt performances.
“Improv is an art that thrives on authenticity, risk and genuine connection,” stated Walsh, emphasizing the core principles he plans to share during the Maui workshop.
“It’s not just about being fast and loud; it’s about infusing it with heart and soul. Maui’s resilience after the Lahaina fires is an inspiration, and I believe this workshop can shine a light on the island’s spirit and resilience.”
The workshop aims not only to provide invaluable training and insights into the art of improvisation but also to shine a spotlight on Maui’s revival after the Lahaina fires.
The culminating celebrity showcase at the ProArts Playhouse promises an evening of entertainment featuring talents from the workshop.
“Maui is a special place to my family, and by conducting this workshop, we aim to encourage visitors to return, supporting the island’s recovery and showcasing that Maui is indeed open for business,” added Walsh.
