Sacha Salem named Na Pueo Female Athlete of the Year

All-star swimmer and golfer Sacha Salem was recently named Maui Preparatory Academy’s Female Athlete of the Year.
NAPILI — The sky’s the limit for Maui Preparatory Academy ninth-grader Sacha Salem. The 14-year-old daughter of Chea and Chris Salem was honored last week as Na Pueo Female Athlete of the Year.
As a freshman at Maui Prep, Salem was selected to the Maui Interscholastic League all-star teams in swimming and golf after championship seasons individually and for the school’s teams. She was awarded medals at the state championship competitions in golf and swimming as her Maui Prep teams finished at or near the top at the events.
Sacha also won seven gold medals at the Hawaii Age Group Swimming Championships this year while competing for Lahaina Swim Club and qualified for the U.S. Kids World Teen Championships this summer at Pinehurst along with her brother, Christopher, who is also a standout youth athlete here on the West Side.
Sacha is an honor student at Maui Prep and also plays the piano. She hopes to return to her martial arts practice with the Japan Karate Shotokai Lahaina Dojo to earn her Shodan, or first degree Black Belt, ranking.
