LAHAINA — The Lahaina Pop Warner Football Association emerges from the shadow of the pandemic restrictions led by an energetic leadership team for the 2022 season. The program is headed up by Chiefs Commissioner Ala Calapini in her first campaign as the director of teams that will compete this fall.
The Lahaina Chiefs will field three teams for the upcoming campaign: the Tiny Mites for kids 5-7 years old, Junior Pee Wees for 8-10 years old and Midgets for 12-14 years.
Leading the Tiny Mite Chiefs 24-player roster are team President Dezaray Alexander, Treasurer Cierra Rickard and Secretary Kristelle Turalva Albano. The coaching staff is led by Charles Kahunanui, and assistants Nino Marzan, Kenui Dapitan, Myron Rosenthal and Eha Kalani.
The 10U 35-player JPW program will be directed by Shantelle Kaili, Secretary Krist Baybayan and Treasurer Florence Cortez. The coaching staff is headed up by Ele Calapini, along with David Kaili, Lyle Baybayan, Isileli Sa, Kanamu Balinbin and Nathan Mau.
The 14U team has 30 players on its roster, and the coaching staff includes Aundre Hale, Kiko Fonohema, Steven Gonzalez, Junior Tevaga, BJ Pagdilao Bala, and Duke Kaina. Tara Jones is the team president.
Commissioner Calapini had special praise for all of the board members and coaches and added, “Lahaina Pop Warner would like to thank Horsepower Painting for donating game uniforms for the Tiny Mites, as well as Kalapu Maui Fusi Fonua for their donation of blocking pads for each division.”
The West Side community looks forward to the return of Pop Warner football and appreciates the time and effort of the leadership staff and coaches. Imua, Lahaina Chiefs!
