By Staff | Jun 17, 2022

LAHAINA — Lahaina Swim Club participated in the 46th annual Sakamoto Invitational Meet held in honor of legendary American swimming coach Soichi Sakamoto. The event took place at the Coach Sakamoto Pool in Wailuku on May 28 and 29.

With nine teams from Maui, Oahu and Kauai competing, Lahaina Swim Club showed outstanding results, taking the first place overall in team points.

The team had multiple individual champions: Emily Gorokhovsky in the girls 11-12 division, Sacha Salem in the girls 13-14 division, Noah Richard in the boys open division, Noah Caiserman in the boys 13-14 division, and Maison Alexander in the boys 15-18 division. Additionally, Caiserman was tied for the highest overall individual points.

After the official events, the athletes took part in a fun Pineapple relay with teams of eight swimmers — four boys and four girls in each team.

With two all-Lahaina teams competing, the team consisting of Kaina Yamada, Eli Hazlet, Jacob Gorokhovsky, Tristan Richard, Jersea Borneman, Mia Lee, Jessie Young and Alicia Wintermeyer finished in first place, taking home the gold medals and pineapples!

Huge thanks to coaches Tom Popdan, Jen Wiseman, Ryan Martines, and Alicia Wintermeyer for guiding Lahaina Swim Club swimmers through the meet.

The club also thanked all of the swimmers and parent volunteers for showing great spirit at this event!
