Lahainaluna Foundation seeks volunteers for Sentry Tournament of Champions

Gold Medalist Xander Schauffele and Caddie Austin Kaiser at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Schauffele’s Gold Medal has qualified him to compete at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua in January.
LAHAINA — Maui’s marquee sports event of the winter tees off on Jan. 5, 2022, as the Sentry Tournament of Champions plays out at Kapalua Resort’s world- renowned Plantation Course.
A winners-only PGA Tour event, the STOC brings together the top golf competitors of the year to compete for the prestigious title at the pristine Plantation Course at the foothills of the West Maui Mountains.
Thus far, 40 of the world’s top professionals have qualified for the event, including ten first-time champions.
Of important note to Maui residents is that this tournament is the primary beneficiary to the Lahainaluna High School Foundation. The STOC provides a significant portion of LHSF revenue that funds scholarships, nearly every club and athletic team, and special projects at Lahainaluna.
Lahainaluna High School Foundation Executive Director Jeff Rogers noted that the volunteer corps for the event is severely depleted.
“We are looking for community members that have spare time from December 31 to January 11, that can team up with our other student and adult volunteers in performing set up and breakdown for the tournament,” Rogers said.
“You don’t need to be a student or a Lahainaluna alumnus — just know that your time and effort will help support LHS students, staff and the West Side community at large.”
Contact Rogers at lhsfoundation@hawaiiantel.net or (808) 214-2839 if you can donate the time to support the organization and enjoy being a part of one of the PGA Tour’s top events to start the year.
