Ki-Aikido introductory course slated

PUKALANI – A public introductory course in Ki-Aikido for adults and teens will be offered on four consecutive Tuesday nights from Sept. 3-24 at the Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani (downstairs) from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

The course will be taught by Fourth-Dan Fincher Sterling under the direction of Hawaii Ki Federation Chief Instructor Christopher Curtis, Eighth-Dan.

The course is sponsored by Maui Ki-Aikido and the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation.

Based on Zen principles, Ki-Aikido is a Japanese martial art that teaches practical self-defense with a peaceful mindset and calmness training through movement. All aspects of Ki-Aikido practice will be introduced.

A suggested donation of $40 can be applied to dues if the participant joins the dojo to continue training after the four-week course.

Ongoing classes are held Upcountry on Tuesdays and daily at the Shunshinkan Dojo at 194 S. Market St. in Wailuku.
