Lahaina Canoe Club to host Pau Hana Industry Races
LAHAINA – Spring is in the air, and that can only mean one thing – it’s time for the Pau Hana Industry Races!
On Saturday, April 27, Lahaina Canoe Club will host local businesses and organizations from around Maui to come together and compete in an outrigger canoe regatta – a day of sun, fun and paddle trophies.
The event is Lahaina Canoe Club’s annual fundraiser, and 2019 marks the regatta’s 39th year. The format invites any local business that can sit five paddlers in an outrigger canoe (four paddlers for the Manager Division). The club provides steers-people, paddles and canoes. There are divisions for everyone – men and women, novice to experienced, mixed crews and manager events.
On April 27, employees from resorts, restaurants, surf and construction companies, Crossfit, even doctors, will meet on the sands of Hanakao’o Beach Park for a chance to win the coveted LCC Paddleman Trophy.
The winners will receive a traditional engraved wooden paddle to decorate their place of business.
Winners last year included Old Lahaina Luau, Lahaina Grill, Aloha Crossfit and Marriott Kaanapali, with the Spirit Award presented to the teachers of Princess Nahienaena Elementary School. And who can forget the King and Queen of the Beach: Bubba Kukahiko and Aubrey Morrell.
There will be food booths, local vendors and door prizes all day from sponsors Maui Jim, Island Press Coffee and Aston Maui.
If you are interested in entering crews or getting involved with this event or the club, contact LCC via info@lahainacanoeclub.com or social media.
Lahaina Canoe Club looks forward to seeing you at the Pau Hana Industry Races at Hanakao’o Beach Park on Saturday, April 27. Imua Lahaina!
