Maui Cycle Exploration to start Saturday with West Maui ride
Maui Bicycling League is excited to introduce a new initiative: Maui Cycling Exploration. Thanks to support from Hawaii Tourism Authority’s Community Enrichment Program, the Maui Chapter of the Hawaii Bicycling League will be hosting a series of island-wide rides to provide a unique, scenic, memorable and safe ride for residents and visitors alike.
Rides will be led by trained ride leaders who are knowledgeable of existing bike infrastructure and facilities, rules of the road, safety and cycling etiquette.
“Maui is one of the best places to bike, and the existing infrastructure throughout the island offers completely different experiences” said Saman Dias, chair of the Maui Bicycling League. “We look forward to building and connecting the local cycling community while providing a safe, healthy and unique way for visitors to explore the island.”
Rides are tentatively scheduled for the second Saturday of each month, with the first ride taking place on Feb. 16. All will be donation-based, open to both residents and visitors, and capped at 30 participants.
Online booking is required in advance to reserve your spot. A different bike shop will be featured each month as the sponsor, providing ride support and rental gear for purchase. Interested bike shops can e-mail email@example.com for more information.
Ridesmart Maui and Boss Frog’s are sponsoring the first of the Maui Cycling Exploration ride series, which will take participants through the northwestern shores. This scenic route, beginning at Honokowai Marketplace, brings riders through Kapalua to a turnaround point of either Nakalele Blowhole (advanced) or Honolua Bay (intermediate). Round-trip distances will be 25 miles and 17 miles, respectively, and include breaks for scenic stops and lunch.
