The Aloha Section of the PGA of America recently honored Ben Hongo with the 2018 Horton Smith Award.

KAPALUA – The Aloha Section of the PGA of America recently awarded Ben Hongo, director of instruction at the Kapalua Golf Academy, with the 2018 Horton Smith Award, recognizing the PGA professional who is the model educator with special recognition for outstanding contributions to professional education.

Hongo has been working and instructing at Kapalua for over 27 years. He is also on the Board of Directors for Maui Junior Golf, Lahaina Junior Golf and Aloha Section PGA.

Scott Reinhart, associate teaching professional at the Kapalua Golf Academy, won the 2018 Assistant Golf Professional of the Year.

The award is one of the highest honors the section bestows on a professional whose total contributions to the game best exemplify a PGA professional, with qualities such as outstanding leadership, strong moral character and well-regarded as a model PGA golf professional.

Additionally, the Kapalua Golf Academy was recently named a 2018 Golf Range Association of America Top 50 Range in the Public Category.
