West Maui Little League changing its schedule
LAHAINA – The West Maui Little League organization is gaining traction in preparation for the 2019 season. The West Side program has elected a board of directors and has established plans for early registration and a revamped schedule.
The WMLL Board of Directors will be led by league President Amy Sharp, Vice President Marc Fair, Secretary Trinity Iwankiw, Treasurer Cheryl Sinogo, Player Agent/Safety Officers Michael Iwankiw and Don Thompson and Field Maintenance Supervisor John Sharp. Board members for the 2019 season are Vernon Kanaha, Charles McCabe, Wailani Kahahane, Anastasia Colt, Rodel Pagdilao, Jason Kanaha and Anna Kanaha.
According to league President Sharp, the board has been working toward a common goal of increasing player participation and growing WMLL.
Thus, a unanimous decision was made to split the upcoming season between the Majors/Minors Division (8-13 years of age) and the Rookies/T-Ball division (4-7 years).
Sharp reported that the Majors/Minors season will run from January to March, and the Rookie/T-Ball schedule will be played from March to May.
“This decision was made so that the younger kids will not have to choose between basketball and baseball. They will have the opportunity to participate in both sports,” she said.
She added that WMLL is planning an ‘Ohana Day on Saturday, March 30, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Lahaina Recreation Center field. This event will replace the former opening day ceremony and will include food, music and much more. A “Parade of Players” from all divisions will begin at 3 p.m.
“We invite the entire West Side community to come and join the fun and support West Maui Little League,” she said.
