Rory McIlroy to make Sentry Tournament of Champions debut

By Staff | Oct 4, 2018

KAPALUA – Rory McIlroy, 14-time winner on the PGA Tour, recently announced his commitment to the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

McIlroy will be making his first start at The Plantation Course at Kapalua when it returns to Maui from Jan. 2-6, 2019.

McIlroy qualified for the winners-only tournament with a victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard in March. During the final round, McIlroy collected five birdies over his last six holes and closed with an eight-under 64 for a three-shot victory.

“I’m incredibly excited to play in the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January for the first time,” said McIlroy.

“It’s a meaningful tournament to qualify for, because you have to win to get in, and winning is not easy on the PGA Tour. I can’t wait to get out to Maui in January to experience The Plantation Course and everything the island has to offer.”

PGA Tour winners who have qualified courtesy of victories in the 2018 calendar year include six first-timers: Brice Garnett, Michael Kim, Satoshi Kodaira, Andrew Landry, Andrew Putnam and Aaron Wise.

Additional players who qualified to make the trip to The Plantation Course at Kapalua in January include Keegan Bradley, Paul Casey, Jason Day (two wins), Bryson DeChambeau (three wins), Brice Garnett, Billy Horschel, Dustin Johnson (three wins), Michael Kim, Patton Kizzire (two wins), Satoshi Kodaira, Brooks Koepka (two wins), Andrew Landry, Troy Merritt, Phil Mickelson, Francesco Molinari (two wins), Kevin Na, Scott Piercy, Ted Potter Jr., Ian Poulter, Andrew Putnam, Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed, Justin Rose, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Justin Thomas (two wins), Bubba Watson (three wins), Aaron Wise and Gary Woodland.

The winners-only tournament offers a variety of opportunities to get involved and up close with some of the game’s biggest stars.

A variety of ticket packages are now on sale, including daily and weekly tickets. Aloha Club Skybox weekly packages and Clubhouse packages, both weekly and daily tickets, are also still available. Tickets are available at SentryTournamentofChampions.com or via Ticketmaster. Fans are reminded each year that up to three children, ages 18 and under, are admitted free of charge to the tournament with every paid adult (applies to grounds access only).

The 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions returns to The Plantation Course at Kapalua on Jan. 2-6. All four competitive rounds will be broadcast on Golf Channel. Fans are encouraged to follow the tournament on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to get updates and a behind-the-scenes look at the tournament preparations.
