Westside Hoops team wins silver medal at AAU tourney
LAHAINA – The Westside Hoops Lahaina fifth grade team raced to a silver medal at the Honolulu Sharks AAU Tenth Annual Memorial Day Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament held at Manoa Recreation Park on May 25-28.
The Lahaina team played seven games in three days and reached the championship final with a buzzer-beating shot to defeat the Honolulu Sharks team in the semis.
Lahaina then squared off with the KBallers – one of Oahu’s top youth hoops organizations – and ran out of gas against the high-powered opponent.
The Lahaina team is coached by Chris Salem and included Sylas Jenkins, Kai Shively, Ka’ilikea McCabe, Cameron Henry, Hoku Arnold, Flynn Williams, Jaxson Navarro, Reef Lombardi, Sway Bayol, Tali Buenconsejo and Christopher Salem.
“With this effort, it is clear that the pathway of the West Maui Youth Basketball, the Maui Menehune League and Westside Hoops ensures a positive future for both the boys and girls programs at Lahainaluna High School. The Lunas will shine,” said Coach Salem.
