By Staff | Jan 12, 2017

Kapalua Golf donated playing spots in the PGA Tour’s SBS Tournament of Champions Pro-Am last week Wednesday (PGA Tour star Bubba Watson is pictured teeing off in the pro-am) to the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association. The entries were then purchased by a Hawaii State Junior Golf Association supporter, which resulted in $10,000 raised for the HSJGA. Justin Thomas won the SBS Tournament of Champions with a four-day score of 67-67-67-69 (-22) on Thursday through Sunday and took home $1,220,000.

KAPALUA – Kapalua Golf continued its commitment to giving back to the local community last week by donating playing spots in the PGA Tour’s SBS Tournament of Champions Wednesday Pro Am to the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association. The spots were then bought by a Hawaii State Junior Golf Association supporter that resulted in $10,000 raised for the HSJGA.

“We are thrilled to support junior golf in Hawaii,” said Alex Nakajima, general manager, Kapalua Golf and Tennis. “As the host venue for this week’s SBS Tournament of Champions, we received a number of playing spots in the Wednesday Pro Am. Through good fortune, we were able to donate these spots to the Junior Golf Association, and in turn, help them”

“The purpose of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association is to develop leaders and great kids through golf,” said Matt Rollins, HSJGA executive director. “A gracious donation like this is how we’re able to keep junior golf opportunities so affordable throughout Hawaii.
