The Guinness Book of World Records’ Oldest Yoga Teacher is coming to Lahaina in December

By Staff | Nov 24, 2016

At a youthful 98, Tao Porchon Lynch brings a delightful, childlike love of life and nature to all that she does.

LAHAINA – Tao Porchon Lynch is coming to Maui to offer a unique opportunity to be inspired and practice yoga together. She has trained and certified hundreds of yoga instructors since founding the Westchester Institute of Yoga in 1982.

Lynch has over 70 years of yoga practice and more than 45 years of teaching yoga to students in India, France and the U.S.

At age 98, her life experience is beyond abundant. She was born and raised in India, moved to France in her teens and then went to Hollywood to model and act with the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Marline Dietrich.

Lynch is first woman to train with B.K.S. Iyengar. Precision of poses and proper alignment are the hallmarks of Iynegar’s style, and Lynch teaches how to make the minor adjustments necessary to bring your yoga practice to the next level.

Lynch is a living advertisement for how to tap into human potential. She is unique in her ability to overcome the effects of aging to control her body and mind in harmony with yoga’s principles.

Her philosophy is: “There is nothing we cannot do if we harness the power within us.” Her yoga principles and practices will be appreciated by current and future generations. Her current passion, in addition to yoga, is ballroom dancing, and she is an award-winning world-class dancer.

As a world traveler, Lynch recently spoke to one of her students in New York about wanting to come to Maui, as she has never been here. That student, Susan Varsames, is now a West Maui resident and owner of the Holistic Learning Center of Maui LLC.

Varsames has partnered with Amanda Furgiuele of Body in Balance in Lahaina to bring this extraordinary event to Maui.

The event offers a two-part experience, beginning with an evening discussion session with Lynch entitled “Conversation with the Master” from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a next day 90-minute yoga workshop and book signing. Her latest book, “Dancing Light,” will be available for purchase at the book signing.

When registering, attendees may choose a Friday night conversation with a Saturday class, Dec. 9 and 10, or a Saturday night conversation with a Sunday class on Dec. 10 and 11. Go to www.BodyBalanceMaui.com/tao-porchon-lynch for online registration.
