Martial arts tournament open to competitors of all styles
KAANAPALI – The 2016 Maui Open Martial Arts Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Westin Maui Resort and Spa in Kaanapali.
Registration is slated for 8 to 9 a.m. The entry fee is $40; the cost is $20 for the second event, then $10 for additional events.
General admission is $5; children age seven and under are free. Parking is available at Whalers Village.
The contest is open to men, women and children in all styles and schools, as well as weight divisions.
There will be competition in padded stick point sparring, empty hand kumite, caranza and sayaw, kata (single and team), submission grappling, live stick (single and double), and flex stick (rules of engagement).
In conjunction with the tournament, Escrima seminars will be held Nov. 10 and 11.
