PGA Tour winners to compete at Hyundai Tournament of Champions
KAPALUA – Featuring a unique field of champions from the 2015 PGA Tour, the Hyundai Tournament of Champions will be held Jan. 6-10 at the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort.
A pro-am will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6, followed by the 72-hole individual stroke play (no cut) tournament from Thursday, Jan. 7, through Sunday, Jan. 10.
Patrick Reed is the defending champion of the tournament that features a $5.9 million purse.
Since 1999, the host organizations of the event have distributed over $5.3 million to the Maui community.
All four competitive rounds will be broadcast on the Golf Channel.
The stellar field includes Masters and U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth, Open Championship winner Zach Johnson, PGA Championship winner Jason Day, The Players winner Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson.
Watson, who won the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn., said, “My dream is to make it to Maui. This is what we have always wanted to do is to play here, qualify for this event and then come here.”
Johnson said, “It’s great to be back in Maui. This is a pretty special place to start, and it’s one that certainly me and my family relish because it’s not easy getting back here. We love coming back.”
