PGA Tour stars to compete at Hyundai Tournament of Champions
KAPALUA – Featuring a unique field of champions from the 2015 PGA Tour, the Hyundai Tournament of Champions will be held Jan. 6-10 at the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort.
A pro-am will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6, followed by the 72-hole individual stroke play (no cut) tournament from Thursday, Jan. 7, through Sunday, Jan. 10.
Patrick Reed is the defending champion of the tournament that features a $5.9 million purse.
Since 1999, the host organizations of the event have distributed over $5.3 million to the Maui community.
All four competitive rounds will be broadcast on Golf Channel.
The stellar field includes Masters and U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth, Open Championship winner Zach Johnson, PGA Championship winner Jason Day, The Players winner Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson.
Other tournament winners who earned invites to Kapalua are Emiliano Grillo, Smylie Kaufman, Russell Knox, Peter Malnati, Graeme McDowell, Kevin Kisner and Justin Thomas, who won the CIMB Classic at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club in Malaysia.
“Honestly, I’m extremely excited about going to Maui before Sony,” Thomas said following his win.
“I think that’s going to be awesome. Being a small field and the few guys that are there, I think that’s really going to be a lot of fun, and I’ve heard a lot of great things about it.”
