Lahaina powerlifter sets new world record

Seven-time world deadlift champion Liz Cabe deadlifted 341.5 pounds at the world championships.

LAHAINA – The 2015 Bench Press and Deadlift World Championships were held on Nov. 17 to 22 at Bally’s/Paris Resort Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Over 450 lifters from 13 different countries competed in the week-long event.

Seven-time world deadlift champion Liz Cabe competed in the women’s deadlift competition. Weighing in at 95.2 pounds, she deadlifted 341.5 pounds.

Her winning lift set a new Women’s Open and Master Division world record. She was the only female deadlifter to lift more than three-and-a-half times her body weight. Liz also won the Women’s Open and Master Division Outstanding Lightweight Female Deadlifter Award.

Liz competes for team Rhino, an elite powerlifting team located in Honolulu. She trains at Valley Isle Fitness in Lahaina and is coached by Craig Desoto.
