Kaanapali Golf Courses to host Kaanapali Classic Collegiate Invitational in November
KAANAPALI – Kaanapali Golf Courses, managed by Billy Casper Golf, will host golfers from 19 universities across America in the 2015 Kaanapali Classic Collegiate Invitational on Nov. 5-8.
The 54-hole, individual and team stroke-play event will feature golfers from Ball State, Bowling Green, California-Santa Barbara, California State-Northridge, Georgia, Gonzaga, Hawaii-Hilo, Hawaii-Manoa (host), Indiana, Kansas, Liberty, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, North Carolina State, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, South Carolina and Washington State.
“The competition and camaraderie at last year’s tournament were spectacular,” said Ed Kageyama, PGA general manager of Kaanapali Golf Courses. “Again, we’ve brought together another strong field of top collegiate golfers to face a stern challenge on the Royal Kaanapali Course.”
The University of Oregon achieved a dominating performance last year to win the inaugural Kaanapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, finishing at 33-under par 819. The Ducks set NCAA records on the first day, posting a 30-under par 254 to set the new mark for lowest single-round score in relation to par and total strokes. The victory vaulted Oregon to No. 1 in the Golf Coaches Association of America poll, the highest ranking in the program’s history.
The individual title also went to Oregon, when freshman Aaron Wise sank a 20-foot putt to beat the University of North Florida’s MJ Maguire in a sudden death playoff after both finished regulation at 10-under par 203.
Kaanapali will again host a College-Am fundraising tournament on Thursday, Nov. 5, to benefit the University of Hawaii Golf Team. Maui residents and visitors can play with current college athletes and future PGA Tour stars.
