Kapalua announces new director of tennis

KAPALUA – Kapalua Tennis last week announced the appointment of Steve Campbell as the new director of tennis.

He comes to Kapalua from Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA)/Rutgers Tennis Center, where he was head coach for the boys team and director of tennis.

Campbell’s experience spans over 30 years. He has directed tennis facilities of differing sizes in California, Texas, Colorado, Wyoming and Hawaii. His career also includes work within private and member-owned clubs, academic facilities and high-end resorts.

Campbell studied under famed tennis coach and mentor Vic Braden – often referred to as the world’s best tennis coach- in Coto de Caza, California, and under Steve Smith at the Tennis Tech program in Tyler, Texas, which had the first comprehensive degree program for tennis teachers. He has coached numerous college level players and nationally ranked amateurs.

Mike Jones, Kapalua Tennis general manager, said, “By bringing someone of Steve’s caliber on board, we will not only offer great coaching but focus on building a culture of great tennis in the Kapalua community.”
