Kraig Vickers Honor Run pays tribute to soldiers
KAHULUI – The second annual 5K run and a 3K run/walk will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4, at Kanaha Beach Park in honor of Maui boy Kraig M.K. Vickers, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on Aug. 6, 2011 during Operation Enduring Freedom as a member of the U.S. Navy’s Special Warfare Development Group.
Vickers, along with 21 other members of his unit and an additional nine U.S. service members, were all killed when their Chinook CH-47 Helicopter was shot down by insurgents while engaged in combat operations.

The 5K starts at 7:30 a.m., and the 3K will begin at 7:45 a.m.
All registrants will receive a free T-shirt and are encouraged to enjoy post-race entertainment and various snack items following the run.
Awards will be given out to the top three finishers in several age categories.
