Teen powerlifters set records
PHOENIX, ARIZONA – The WABDL National Push-Pull Bench Press and Deadlift Championships were recently held in Phoenix. Two Lahainaluna High School graduates now attending Arizona State College competed in the Teen Men Division.
Llumel Magana, competing in the 181-pound weight class, 18-19 year Teen Division, set an Arizona state record bench press by pushing 418 pounds. He also set an Arizona state record with a deadlift of 529 pounds.
Llumel took first place in the Men’s Open Divison, 181-pound weight class, for both bench press and deadlift. He also won best teen lifter for both bench press and deadlift.
Vijay Maulit competed in the 242-pound weight class, 18-19 year Teen Division. He set a Hawaii state record with a bench press of 424 pounds and achieved a deadlift of 457 pounds. He took first place in both the bench press and deadlift.
Both are members of the West Maui Powerlifters coached by Craig Desoto. They will compete in the Teen Men Division at the World WABDL Championships at Reno, Nevada in November.
