Lahainaluna athletes sign college letters of intent

LAHAINA – Lahainaluna High School senior student athletes Kekuu Haake, Malu “Rolls Royce” Rosenthal, Jade Chihara, Tytus Lucas and Makana Kaaikala Caban recently signed college letters of intent in the library on campus.

A momentous occasion for all five graduating seniors, the ceremony signified the completion of college searches and an agreement between the families and the schools for the reciprocal relationship between student athletes and the learning institutions.

Kekuu, the daughter of Nani and Paul Haake, will attend Northern Idaho College and play softball for the Cardinals. She is undecided as to her major course of study.

Rosenthal, the Maui Interscholastic League golf champion, 13th place finisher at the state tournament and the son of Phyllis and Don Rosenthal, will attend Warner Pacific College in Oregon to study sports management.

Chihara, Lady Luna team captain and two-time MIL first team basketball all-star, will be a Smith College (Massachusetts) Pioneer and will study education. Her parents are Monica and Walter Chihara.

Teammate Caban, the daughter of Dawn and Arthur Jacinto, will continue her basketball and educational career at Pacific Union College in Napa, California. She will study pre-pharmacy and business.

The son of Sheri and Marcus Lucas, Tytus will attend Pacific University, where he will continue his standout football career at the Forrest Grove, Oregon college. He was a team captain, four-time MIL football all-star and finished his high school days being named the MIL Defensive Player of the Year.
