Lahaina and Wahine Jackpot Tourneys return this weekend

By Staff | Oct 25, 2012

LAHAINA – This year marks the 36th anniversary of the Wahine and Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament. It will be a two-day event with the wahines kicking off the tournament on Friday, Oct. 26, and the Lahaina Jackpot following on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Lahaina Harbor.

This homegrown community event is a nonprofit tradition sponsored by Lahaina Yacht Club, along with Kona Brewing Company, Ocean Vodka and many others, including Doc Martin’s Sunscreen of Maui and Pacific West Fuels.

The 2012 Jackpot will be awarded to the largest marlin, ahi, ono or mahi weighed. There are no second place prizes.

For the second year, the Lahaina Jackpot will be encouraging anglers to participate in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration-sponsored billfish “Tag and Release” program.

A new “Tag & Release Purse” has been accumulated from sponsor donations, which will provide cash prizes to the teams that tag and release the most billfish.

For more information, contact MaryAnn McNew, tournament director, at (808) 268-6422 or LahainaJackpot@gmail.com.
