Under Jeff Smith’s leadership, Kapalua Tennis Garden has earned awards in 2012, including “Gold Medal - #18 Best Tennis Resorts” by Tennis Resorts Online and “Top 50 American Tennis Resorts” by Tennis Magazine.

KAPALUA – Jeff Smith, tennis director at Kapalua Tennis Garden, managed by Peter Burwash International, will be honored with the 2012 Maui District Service Award from the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section.

This special award is given to an individual or organization within a USTA district that has made outstanding contributions to tennis through service, commitment and example.

Smith will receive the award on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section Annual Awards Banquet in Honolulu.

“I am honored and excited to accept this award from the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section and will continue to strive to make positive contributions and grow the game of tennis at Kapalua and on Maui,” said Smith.

A graduate of North Carolina State University, Smith played college tennis on a full scholarship in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

He played singles and doubles all four years while at NCSU, including an appearance in the 1999 NCAA Division I Tournament, and was part of several top ten team wins during his college career.

Smith began his career with Peter Burwash International at Kapalua as head tennis professional in 2009 and was quickly promoted to director of tennis in 2010.
