WAILUKU – The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association’s 16th annual Excellence in Education presented by Southern Wine & Spirits of Hawaii golf tournament took place on Friday, Aug. 24, at the Wailea Old Blue Golf Course.

The sold-out event raised over $21,000 to support youth scholarships.

The top 16 teams took home some great prizes, and the popular visitor industry event celebrated 16 years of giving back to Maui’s future business leaders by raising significant scholarship funding for the following programs: Academy of Hospitality & Tourism at Baldwin, Lahainaluna and Maui High School; University of Hawaii Maui College Culinary Arts and Hospitality & Tourism; MHLA Member Scholarship Program; and Maui Junior Golf.

“The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association is committed to giving back to the community by providing valuable opportunities to Maui County’s future business leaders,” said Carol Reimann, executive director of the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association.

“We are pleased to raise much-needed funds to invest in our youth and provide them with the necessary tools to make educated choices. The students who benefit from our efforts are the future of Maui – it’s important that we provide opportunities to help maximize their potential and support workforce development.”

The top teams received prizes, including hotel stays, dining certificates, golf rounds and merchandise.

The team that placed 16th received first place honors – a tribute to the 16th annual event.

The top five finishers follow, listed by order of finish: HP Baldwin High School Foundation – Desiree Ting, Dennis Hinahara, Brad Ing and Lisa Judge; Royal Lahaina Resort I – Braulio Andaluz, Yvette Kitagawa, June Pagdilao and Koji Kato; Royal Lahaina Resort II – Leo Malascas, Josh Sumbicay, Richard Hertz and Ricky Supnet; Honua Kai Resort & Spa – Harold Cathcart, Martha Wolfe, Sara Sharbonneau and Carlo Antiado; and Whalers Village – Lisa Donlon, Brody Long, Lionel Siangco and Nick Galindo.
