Lahainaluna to host top teams for basketball tournament

Lahainaluna High School Music Performing Arts proudly congratulates LHS students who performed in the 2011 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade with the Na Koa Ali‘i Hawaii State Marching Band. LAHAINA – Top-caliber high school boys basketball will be showcased on Maui during the Christmas season.

The third annual Lahainaluna Invitational Tournament (formerly the Christmas Classic) is set for Dec. 19-22 at the world-class Lahaina Civic Center.

There will be 18 teams competing in two conferences. The Ali’i Conference will feature elite teams from California, Washington and British Columbia, Canada.

The Maui Conference will consist of local Maui Interscholastic League and Canadian teams.

“We are thrilled with the quality and quantity of this year’s event,” said tournament spokesman Dan Williams.

“Fans are in for a special treat during this special time of the year… we are excited to host teams, players and their fans and families in the true spirit of aloha and Mele Kalikimaka.”

Visiting teams include Mount Si from Washington; San Pedro, Redondo Union, and Oaks Christian from California; Provo from Utah; and White Rock Christian Academy, Sullivan Heights, and Cowichan from British Columbia.

Hawaii teams include Hilo, Molokai, Maui High, Baldwin, Seabury Hall, Kamehameha Schools, King Kekaulike and host Lahainaluna.

Games begin at 9 a.m. on Dec. 19, 20 and 22 and 8 a.m. on Dec. 21. All-day tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children; keiki five and under will be admitted free.
