Former UCLA coach to lead hoops clinic at Lahainaluna

By Staff | Nov 15, 2011

LAHAINA – The Maui basketball community is invited to receive world-class instruction at Lahainaluna High School on Sunday, Nov. 20.

Players ages 8-18, their parents and coaches will have the opportunity to meet, talk basketball and receive topnotch instruction from two of basketball’s most renowned coaches.

This “Holiday Hoops Clinic” co-presented by the Lahainaluna Athletic Department and Maui Basketball will feature coaches Jim Harrick and Fred Crowell.

Both are hoop coaching legends. Harrick is the former head coach of UCLA, and Crowell is the founder and president of world-renowned NBC Camps.

Crowell holds a core belief in the creative genius and personal values of the individual.

“The mark of greatness is often related to the people you hang out with or look to for counsel,” he said, referencing Harrick and the late, legendary John Wooden.

“They will go down in history as two of the best basketball coaches in the world. I had the privilege of visiting John Wooden’s home with Jim Harrick. Wooden in my view, has no equal in the world of basketball coaching. Harrick has won everywhere he has ever coached.”

Learn more from Crowell and Harrick at the free event at 5:30 p.m. There will be both a players’ clinic and “Coaches Corner” for local coaches and parents.

All attendees are asked to meet and gather in the parking lot below the Lahainaluna gymnasium.

Free Akina Aloha Tours bus transportation will be provided for Upcountry players, departing Seabury Hall’s lower gym parking lot at 4:30 p.m.

For information, call Ben Prangnell at (808) 298-4944 or Dan Williams at (808) 276-0260, or visit www.basketballmaui.com.
