Makena to host tennis event
MAKENA – The newly upgraded Makena Tennis Club is ready to host South Maui’s first “Pot-of-Gold” Doubles Championships.
Set for Nov. 12-13, the tournament promises to be a fun event full of great doubles competition.
The event will feature a red carpet players’ party complete with professional photography, gourmet food and the tournament’s famed “Pot-of-Gold” prize drawing.
The tournament format will feature two-out-of-three sets, single elimination doubles in each tournament division.
Player divisions include: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and an Open Division.
Complimentary refreshments and snacks will be available alongside cold oshiburi towels – a signature amenity at Makena Tennis Club.
At the Pot-of-Gold event on Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m., players can experience the glitz and glamour of Hollywood by walking the “Step and Repeat” red carpet complete with free tournament portraits by PhotoGraphics Maui.
For the event, Makena Beach & Golf Resort’s culinary team will serve up country barbecue favorites with a gourmet twist.
Those not participating in the tournament may also join in the party fun by purchasing tickets at the Makena Tennis Club Pro-shop for $20.
“We want everyone, members and nonmembers alike, to come and experience the ambiance at the newly renovated Makena Tennis Club,” said Frank Salvador, tennis director at Makena Tennis Club.
“This event was designed to bring out the best of what we enjoy about tennis good-fun, good food, competition and camaraderie.”
Registration closes on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.
Entry fees are $40 per person per one event or $50 per person per two events. Complete fees must accompany each entry.
Entries can be made over the phone with a valid credit card.
A percentage of the proceeds at this year’s event will benefit the Maui United Way.
