HSA to launch series of Maui surfing contests

By Staff | Sep 22, 2011

The Hawaiian Surfing Association, Maui Chapter’s 2011-12 season is about to begin.

The chapter is a group of competitive amateur and professional surfers from Maui. HSA is recognized worldwide by other surfing associations.

The mission is to promote the sport of surfing and provide venues for competition at different locales throughout Maui and the state, and to help members focus on their athletic skills, physical training and surfing as they progress toward a professional career.

Of equal importance is the commitment to help its members maintain good guidance, educational direction and responsibility to their families and others within their community.

All surfers are invited to participate. The annual membership fee is $45 (add family members for $25).

This year’s divisions include the Boys 9 & under, Boys 12 & under, Boys 14 & under, Boys 16 & under, Open Men, Girls 14 & under, Open Women, Open Bodyboard, Longboard 14 & under and Open Longboard.

The event schedule is: Hana Surfing Classic 2011 at Koki Beach on Sept. 24; Hi-Tech/Vans/Lopez Surfbash XXI at Ho’okipa Beach Park on Nov. 26-27 (alternate dates are Dec. 3-4); Hui O Paukukalo at Big Lefts on Dec. 10-11 (alternate dates are Dec. 17-18); Honolua Legends of the Bay at Honolua Bay on two weekend days from Jan. 27 to Feb. 12, 2012; and Hurley at the Harbor at Lahaina Harbor on April 7-8, 2012 (alternate dates are April 14-15).
