By Staff | Aug 11, 2011

WEST MAUI — The Maui Marathon & Half-Marathon announced that the Maui Tacos 5K on Saturday, Sept. 17, is adding the “Maui Go Red for Women Ambassador 5K Walk.”

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. at Whalers Village. The $25 fee includes a T-shirt.

“The goal of the ‘Maui Go Red for Women Ambassador 5K Walk’ is to raise awareness about the high rate and severity of heart disease in women,” said Rudy Huber, executive director of the Maui Marathon.

“We’re hoping for 100 walkers or more to sign up this year, so encourage your friends to join you on September 17.”

Research shows that women who join the “Go Red for Women” movement often take action to improve their heart health and fight heart disease.

The Marathon Race Headquarters will be located at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa on Kaanapali Beach. As the official host hotel, many of the marathon activities take place at or near the resort. Kama’aina rates available during the marathon start at $189 per night for a garden view room.

Other hotels offering special rates during the Maui Marathon include: The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Villas (rates start at $290 per night for studio island accommodations) and Kaanapali Beach Hotel (rates start at $109 per night for a garden view room).

To take advantage of these special Maui Marathon rates, contact Travel Network on Maui at 800-344-9086 or 244-1414.

The popular Maui Tacos 5K race starts and finishes at Whalers Village in Kaanapali Resort. Awards are given to the top three finishers in each ten-year age group.
