KAANAPALI — The number six was certainly lucky for one of the participants in the 36th annual Friends of Lahainaluna Football Golf Tournament held on May 21.

Yasu Takara of Oahu aced the sixth hole of the Kaanapali Kai Course for his sixth hole-in-one.

Some 222 players enjoyed the day with food and beverages at the start, on the course and at the awards luncheon at Lahaina Civic Center.

Golfers lined up to help support this 501(c)( 3) nonprofit, but they all stayed for the ono stew, soup and luau-style food and camaraderie!

Each team left with a prize, and this year the team of Lane Fujii, Paul Taira and Jason Finegan went home with the top prize, while the team of Ben Watts, Jim Stephens and Scott Chumley scored big by being the 36th place team.

Friends of Lahainaluna Football raised more than $30,000 with this golf outing due to the generous support of Kaanapali Golf Courses and all of the donors, sponsors and volunteers.

Funds will go toward Lahainaluna High School’s football program for equipment, uniforms, meals and travel.

Five $1,000 scholarships were awarded on May 12 to graduating varsity players Jostin Carbajal, Mitchell Loewen, Teanu Rickard, T.J. Rickard and Chase Rogers.

Save the date for the 37th annual outing: May 19, 2012.
