By Staff | Jul 14, 2011

Olivia Bianco, who is currently fighting cancer at a California hospital, is a cheerleader with the Lahaina Chiefs.

KAPALUA — The “Challenge for Olivia” Kids Golf Event is set for Sunday, July 24, at The Bay Course.

The contest will be a nine-hole scramble on the “Bay Express.” Teams will be comprised of four players between six and 17 years old.

Registration starts at 3 p.m., and the contest will begin with a shotgun start at 4 p.m. Entry is $50 per player, which includes dinner.

Following the tournament, a luau and awards ceremony featuring Napili Kai Foundation dancers will be held at Hale Hokulani (Kumulani Chapel).

Luau tickets for family members and guests are on sale for $20 for adults and $10 for keiki (children three and under will be admitted free). Bring the whole family!

Participants are encouraged to fund-raise for additional donations on their own. The individual who raises the most money will win a one-night stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua.

For information, or to sign up, contact Paul Brown at 665-3747 or pbrownmaui@gmail.com.

Earlier this year, Olivia Bianco, 5, had a brain tumor removed at a California hospital.

The daughter of Momoko and Alex Bianco of Kahana was amid kindergarten at King Kamehameha III School.

“Overall, it’s just amazing how much progress she’s made, and how much she’s pulling through to beat the cancer,” noted a July 5 update on Olivia at www.caringbridge.org.

Olivia’s parents use the website to write journal entries to update everyone on her progress. To follow along, go to the webpage, search for Oliviabianco (one word) and then register to gain access.
