Lahaina swimmers set county records
LAHAINA — In what Lahaina Swim Club coach Tom Popdan called “an amazing performance,” several young athletes under his guidance have continued an assault on the Maui Age Group Swim Association’s record books.
The charge is being led by 16-year-old sensation Renny Richmond, who shattered the MAGSA records in the 50 and 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle events at the long course meet held April 16 at Lahaina Aquatic Center.
Joining Richmond in the record-breaking charge were Paris Sargent in the 50 and 100 back events for 13-year-olds and Jesselee Chapman in the 800 free for the 15-year-old age group.
Also, Sarah Armstrong set a new standard for the 50 fly at Kihei Aquatic Center on April 2.
