LAHAINA — Lahainaluna High School senior Maiki Viela has been nominated to the 2011 McDonald’s All-American High School Basketball Girls Team.

She is one of 800 girls nationwide, and the only girl from the State of Hawaii, to be honored. Viela will now be up for selection to be one of the 24 female athletes to compete in the 2011 McDonald’s All-American Games that will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU from the famed United Center in Chicago, Illinois, on March 30.

Viela will be presented with a certificate for the honor and was commended by McDonald’s of Hawaii for the achievement and for her contributions to the success of Lahainaluna High School and to the sport of basketball.

Viela was the Gatorade Player of the Year last season, as she led the Lady Lunas to a state championship. This year, she helped the team to a sixth consecutive Maui Interscholastic League title and a fourth place finish at the state tournament. Viela has signed a full ride scholarship to attend Division I Gonzaga this fall.
