Children fish Lahaina Harbor for prizes in LYC tourney

LAHAINA — This year’s Lahaina Yacht Club Keiki Fishing Tournament was held on Nov. 21. It saw 253 anglers equipped with cane poles, buckets and bait, searching every finger pier, walkway, nook and cranny at Lahaina Harbor for all types of fish.
In the girl’s six-and-under age group, Lei Aloha Kauhane took first place with a 4.4-ounce rockfish. In second place was Waimea Ah-Yat with a 3.4-ounce wrass. Third place was a 3.2-ounce papio by Kylee McCollough.
In the boy’s six-and-under age group, Kingston Kapu weighed a 6.9-ounce sergeant major for first place. In second was Jerret Kayama with a 6.6-ounce rockfish. Ezekiel Opunui captured third place with a 5.2-ounce sergeant major.
In the girl’s seven to eight age group, Ihfalani Garcia took first place with a 6.2-ounce rockfish. Second place was a 2.8-ounce goatfish by Alana Koa. In third place was Mikala Vasquez with a 2.6-ounce wrasse.
In the boy’s seven to eight age group, Owen Wegner weighed a 7.8-ounce rockfish for first place. In second was Akai Ah-Yat with a 7.8-ounce uhu. Tony Nunez took third place with a 6.6-ounce mullet.
In the girl’s nine to ten age group, Leila Kato took first place with a 7.6-ounce squirrelfish. A 6.9-ounce squirrelfish landed Kamalani AhPuck into second place. Erin Hookano captured third place with a 6-ounce squirrelfish.
In the boy’s nine to ten age group, Kealoha Kauhane took first place with a 7.5-ounce rockfish. In second place was Noah Nakamura with a 4-ounce rockfish. The third place fish was a 3.7-ounce rockfish by Nick Nunez.
In the girl’s 11-12 age group, a 2-ounce wrasse by Asti Arcangel took first place. In second was Nicole Achroeder with a 0.75-ounce squirrelfish.
In the boy’s 11-12 age group, Jacob Opunui weighed a 6.4-ounce sergeant major. Second was a 2.6-ounce wrasse by Austin Ariza. Third place was a 1.9-ounce rockfish by Kapono Hoopii.
