LAHAINA — Friends of Lahainaluna Football Inc. recently awarded scholarships to graduating Lahainaluna High School seniors Michael-Lloyd Akiona, Blake Ball, Holden Mowat and Jaret-Levi Nahooikaika.

The four $1,000 scholarships were made possible by donations from the community and through fund-raising efforts of Friends of Lahainaluna Football, a nonprofit group.

Friends of Lahainaluna Football raises a large share of the funds for these scholarships through proceeds of its annual golf tournament.

Celebrating their 35th year, the golf tournament was held on May 22 at the Kaanapali Kai Course.

The sold-out event was enjoyed by all, but especially by the top prize-winning team of Patricia Murakami, Wayne Murakami and Tyler Okimoto.

Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann attended the luncheon and award ceremony and helped award prizes to all of the 75 teams.

Save the date for next year’s event: May 21, 2011.
