By Staff | Nov 19, 2009

LAHAINA — Chaminade University and the EA Sports Maui Invitational are proud to present the annual Silverswords’ Maui Basketball Hoops Clinic in Lahaina.

Free for all kids ages six to 16, the clinic will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Malu-ulu-o-lele Park courts along Front Street in Lahaina.

Chaminade Head Coach Matt Mahar and the men’s basketball team will work with participants on fundamentals such as dribbling, passing and shooting.

Check-in will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m., with the clinic running from 2 to 3 p.m.

The first 100 participants will receive an Adidas basketball and an opportunity to win prizes, including tickets to Chaminade’s opening game of the tournament against the 2002 National Champion Maryland Terrapins on Monday, Nov. 23, at 4:30 p.m.

For more information on the clinic, call (808) 661-4685.

The Maui Hoops Clinic has been organized annually since 2003 by students from Chaminade’s Rotaract Club and the men’s basketball program in conjunction with the EA Sports Maui Invitational to benefit Maui’s youth.

All participants are asked to bring two canned good items to benefit the Maui Food Bank’s holiday efforts. Sponsors for this year’s clinic include adidas, EA Sports, Gatorade, HMSA and Maui County Parks and Recreation.

The 2009 EA Sports Maui Invitational hosted by Chaminade University tips off Nov. 23-25 at Lahaina Civic Center.

A stellar lineup of teams, including Arizona, Cincinnati, Colorado, Gonzaga, Maryland, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, join host Chaminade in the nation’s premier early season men’s college basketball tournament, which is celebrating its 26th year in paradise.
