‘Pole for Pink’ benefits charity
LAHAINA — Forget what you think you know about Pole Dancing and take a swing at it! There’s no better opportunity or cause than “Pole for Pink” to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Maui’s only pole dance studio, The Pole Room, will teach a “donation only” class on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“The class is ladies only, but I’ll happily accept donations from anyone. And 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation,” said owner/instructor Amanda Furgiuele.
For an hour-and-a-half, participants will get a sample of a beginner’s class called “The Nibbler.” It starts with a warm-up stretch and Pilates-based workout, then progresses to the poles, where every student learns a spin and a take-home routine. The suggested donation is $25.
“Pole Dancing is about body awareness, self-education and empowerment… Plus, it’s a serious workout even if you ARE having fun,” stated Furgiuele.
Only the first 8-10 women will get a spot in class; preregistration is required. Anyone wishing to contribute is encouraged to drop by the studio at 142 Kupuohi St. above Lahaina Gateway Center before the event to donate. Checks can be made payable to “The Breast Cancer Research Foundation” in any denomination. Call (808) 283-2606 or e-mail thepoleroom@gmail.com.
