West Maui Sports and Fishing Supply seeks a new owner

By Staff | Dec 12, 2019

Friendly local service and knowledge make Doug Stacy’s West Maui Sports a great store.

LAHAINA – Tucked back in the corner of the Old Lahaina Center is a spot well known to sport enthusiasts – be they locals or visitors to West Maui. That store is West Maui Sports and Fishing Supply, known to all as the go-to place for fishing poles, fishing tackle, sunscreen, outdoor gear, bait, footballs, boogie boards, baseballs, spear guns, snorkel equipment, fins, sun shirts, rental golf clubs, standup paddle boards, weights, marine and boating supplies – everything the avid or beginning sport enthusiast could want or need.

In addition, you may book fishing charters and other Maui activities, like UFO Parasailing, wild boar hunting, and snorkel and scuba diving adventures. You are even able to seek advice on where to fish, dive, hunt or surf in this iconic local retail one stop shop.

With plenty of parking at 843 Wainee St. and easy access from either Front Street or Honoapiilani Highway, this store is an ideal location. West Maui Sports has received five-star ratings on Yelp and 100 percent approval ratings on Trip Advisor on a steady basis.

Doug Stacy has been with West Maui Sports for over 18 years. Currently, he is looking for someone to step up and become the new owner of this busy retail store. The community strongly supports West Maui Sports, and in return, this store needs to remain a vital part of the Lahaina community. If you have a love of fishing, boating and helping people enjoy Maui sports and recreation, this could be an ideal fit for you to become your own boss.

Realtors are working for you at the state level. After several years of supporting an increase in the “Handyman Exemption,” the amount was increased to $1,500 effective July 10, 2019. The handyman exemption enables persons other than licensed contractors to perform tasks for which the aggregate contract price is less than $1,500. This does not apply to projects which require a building permit or electrical or plumbing work. Also, the handyman exemption will only apply to labor and materials.

“Taxes and all other items” was removed, so the General Excise Tax will no longer be included as part of the $1,500 exemption.
