Hawaii schools receive Science Education Fund grants

KUNIA, Hawaii – A total of 14 grants totaling over $13,000 were awarded to Hawaii public schools from the Monsanto Hawaii Science Education Fund, a program established by The Monsanto Fund to support science education in Hawaii’s public schools.
Recipients included Lahainaluna High School, Lokelani Intermediate, Highlands Intermediate School, Ilima Intermediate School, Kaimuki Middle School, Mililani High School, Pearl City High School, Waialua High & Intermediate School, and Waipahu High School.
Funds went to support a variety of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programs: a Geology/Earth Science Lab, robotics programs, and equipment and supplies to assist with physical science, geology, environmental/marine sciences, natural resources biotechnology and chemistry classes.
Established in 2005, the grant program helps provide Hawaii public schools with programs, tools, supplies and equipment to enhance science education in the schools, and encourages today’s students to consider a future career in the sciences.
To date, this program has awarded more than $261,000 in grant funds.
This grant program is available on the islands of Oahu, Maui and Molokai, where Bayer (formerly Monsanto Hawaii) employees live and work.
Public schools serving students in intermediate grades through college for educational purposes related to science are eligible to apply.
The next grant application deadline is Thursday, April 25, 2019.
