‘Wishes for Fishes,’ a benefit for Maui students
MAALAEA – On Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, Realtors are having their inaugural benefit at the Maui Ocean Center from 6 to 9 p.m. This fundraiser is a 21 and over event where 100 percent of money raised will go directly to Maui County public schools. This is a great opportunity to help Realtors help our Maui teachers and keiki.
In 2007, The Realtors Association of Maui (RAM) began a nonprofit program called Realtors Wishing Well for Maui Students. Our mission is to improve the educational experiences and opportunities of students in our public schools. Wishing Well for Maui Students is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports Maui County’s underfunded public schools.
Did you know..
Maui County has over 20,000 students; 52 percent of those are considered economically disadvantaged.
Our teachers are the lowest paid in the nation given our high cost of living.
The state does not provide funds to teachers for basic school supplies.
On average, our teachers spend $1,000 of their own money for educational materials and supplies for their classrooms.
Annually, Wishing Well gives over 500 pairs of slippers, so kids can attend school.
Wishing Well has given over 750 floor fans over the last three years, so teachers and students don’t melt. Way too many classrooms don’t have A/C.
The most requested items from teachers are pencils, pens, paper, crayons and backpacks.
Since 2007 the Wishing Well has donated over $1,650,000 in goods, supplies and services to Maui’s public schools. The list of needed items is endless.
Would you like to enjoy a night at Maui Ocean Center with a buffet dinner, cash bar, silent auction and live music by Jeff Peterson, Natalie Nicole & Josh Hearl, and Kanekoa, while helping Maui teachers and students?
Tickets are $100/person. You may buy tickets at Eventbrite or by calling (808) 873-8585, extension 5.
