We recently celebrated our 45-year Honeymoon on Aug. 8, 2015. Forty-four years ago, Mike and I arrived on the Valley Isle with our one-year-old son. We flew from LAX and hitched a ride from Kahului Airport to the Banyan Tree. We did not know anyone and had only $500 in our pockets. Mike’s first job was mowing lawns at a Kaanapali condominium. We came to Maui in 1971 for the clean air, blue skies and clear water. We stayed because Maui welcomed us with open arms, and we found work and met new friends.

We are grateful for all the people who have helped us along the way. Gerald Britt for offering Mike his first job; Jane Nagasako, who offered us credit at the Nagasako Supermarket; and to all our friends and family who have helped us grow and mature and have become our ohana.
