LAHAINA – Lee and Barbara Potts, founders of People for Educational Equality, and the owners of Aina Nalu will be hosting the Aina Nalu Wine and Silent Auction Fundraiser, with all donations going to the Lahaina Complex After School Tutor Project, which was founded by Richard and Pat Endsley.

The mission of the Lahaina tutoring program is to help students in the four public schools of West Maui to increase literacy and comprehension in reading, writing, speaking, social studies, mathematics and creativity in their school studies, and in their everyday lives build self confidence, self-esteem and leadership qualities.

The project itself has no guaranteed sustaining sponsor and serves hundreds of students each year, so this fundraiser has become an essential resource.

The fundraiser will be held May 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Aina Nalu Pavilion, which is located at 660 Wainee St. in Lahaina Town. Tickets are $50 each, and they include admittance to the event, two glasses of wine and a commemorative wine glass. Pupus from a variety of local eateries will be served throughout the event. Sam Ahia, father of Howard Ahia, will provide entertainment for the night.

“The last event held in May of 2011 raised $16,000, and we are looking to have even more success this year,” said Pat Endsley.

The silent auction will feature many items (from fine art pieces to jewelry, to gift certificates, to a dinner with the mayor) that have been donated from local businesses and individuals.
