Kaanapali Hillside — West Maui’s best community
KAANAPALI – Kaanapali Hillside sits above the world-class resort and legendary championship golf courses. The residential subdivision of 158 quarter-acre home lots was sold by Ohbayashi as part of the planned community of Kaanapali Resort in the 1980s. This unique, upscale, un-gated area has been West Maui’s best community for over 25 years.
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean with panoramic views of the islands of Lanai and Molokai, on the gentle green slope of Mauna Kahalawai (West Maui Mountains), we are regularly blessed with colorful rainbows, as the mist that shrouds the 5,787-foot summit peak of Puu Kukui drifts to the shore. Tropical breezes and afternoon showers often cool the warm, sunny days. Kaanapali Hillside has some of the most ideal weather in Maui.
Situated on over 50 acres around a central two-acre park, this is a true residential neighborhood and a great place to live. Eighty-three owners are registered homeowners; over 60 percent are year-round residents. Surprisingly, for an area first developed in the 1980s, over 20 percent of the current owners built the home on the Hillside they live in. The Homeowners Association maintains consistent architectural and landscaping standards; dues of $330 are paid quarterly. Many of the luxury, custom single- and two-story properties, which range between 2,000 to over 5,000 square feet, have swimming pools.
Quarterly neighborhood pupus are hosted in the park by the Hospitality Committee, and our yearly HOA meeting in January typically brings a good crowd both the evening before and to the Saturday morning meeting. There is also an enthusiastic group of gardeners who are always willing to share their experience and abundance of healthy tropical plants through our Garden Club.
