“Dollars for Scholars” on May 27 will raise money for the Lahaina Complex After School Tutoring Program.

LAHAINA — Featuring wine, pupus and a silent auction, “Dollars for Scholars” is a fundraiser for the Lahaina Complex After School Tutoring Program.

Come out to show your community support for this wonderful cause on Friday night, May 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the ‘Aina Nalu Pavilion in Lahaina Town. Tickets are $45 in advance and $50 at the door.

The price includes two drinks with each ticket, which includes a commemorative etched wine glass.

Wonderful appetizers will be catered by Luis Fuentes of Island Catering. Some of the great grinds will include Thai spicy shrimp, chicken satay, seafood mango summer rolls, smoked salmon, desserts and much more.

Guests will enjoy live music by Howard Ahia.

Over 100 items will be sold in the silent auction, including boat cruises, hotel stays, shows, art, restaurant gift certificates, luau tickets, Maui Jim sunglasses, massages, manicure/pedicures and much more!

This wonderful event helps hundreds of children that are in our West Side community. The tutor project is completely run by 130 volunteers, but there are still costs involved.

The program, which is led by founders Pat and Richard Endsley, provides a snack each day, books and all the supplies that the students and tutors need. Since 2002, this program has lent a hand to the kids in our community to help them with reading, writing, math, social studies and creative arts by providing them the little extra help they may need to push ahead.

Barbara Potts of Aloha Realty Group and Cheryl Henderson are the ‘Aina Nalu owners that have been the force behind this event. Barbara has set a goal of raising $10,000 or more for the tutoring program to help defray the costs. On the wish list for the program is a new Swun Math System program, “Beyond the Basics” teaching system.

If you would like to purchase tickets or make a donation, call Debbie Arakaki at (808) 283-7214 or Barbara Potts at (808) 344-5008, or go to www.pfee.org. Donations can also be made out to “People for Educational Equality” and mailed to Barbara Potts, 180 Dickenson St., #217, Lahaina, HI 96761. Please come out to join us for a fun evening and good cause!
