WEST MAUI — “Realtors Wishing Well… for Maui Students” is a program launched by Sarah Sorenson in August 2007 to provide Maui County students and schools with essential materials and supplies they would otherwise not have.
Sorenson was president-elect of the Realtors Association of Maui (RAM) at the time, and Wishing Well was the plan for her year in office, not expected then to go on longer.
Now, three years later, the program is still going strong, and asking for the help of the public to augment the efforts of realtors on behalf of students across the county.
Schools on all three islands have received furniture and equipment, supplies for classrooms and students, and funding for books, lunches, athletic programs and field trips.
Anyone who can help provide school supplies — or cash for the purchase of supplies or lunches for kids in need — for the new school year can drop off donations at three real estate-related offices in Lahaina: Aloha Realty Group, 180 Dickenson St., #217; Fidelity National Title & Escrow of Hawaii, 181 Lahainaluna Road, #A; and Old Republic Title & Escrow, 34 Kupuohi St., #104.
Collections will continue through the month of August.
Whether it is a pack of pencils or a check for $1,000, every donation will be greatly appreciated both by the realtors and by the students and teachers who receive the benefit of your generosity.
