KAANAPALI — Perhaps no activity can awaken the spirit of aloha within you more than giving back to your community. The staff of Monte D. Fitts, Realtors are active volunteers and supporters of various organizations.
Principal Broker Monte Fitts and his wife, Michelle, realtor/broker, wish to recognize the efforts of the supporters of the first annual “No Shenanigans” Golf Tournament, which raised $35,520 for the University of San Francisco Melanoma Research Center. The event was spearheaded by Maui residents Rob & Cindy Bloom in honor of their son, Nate Bloom, who passed away on July 4, 2008 after a two-plus-year battle with malignant melanoma. The next event will be held in October 2010. Learn more about the event at noshenanigans.org.
Debbie Fitts, marketing manager, has been named director of Book Trust Maui County, a nonprofit organization that provides books to children on free and reduced lunch programs in every elementary school on Maui, Lanai and Molokai.
She said that “there is a literacy gap that exists for children in low-income families that can put them at a disadvantage for the rest of their life. Book Trust provides the tools — books — that close this gap and can change a child’s future.” Learn more at booktrust.org
