Habitat for Humanity Maui seeks volunteers for Build-A-Thon

KAHULUI — Habitat for Humanity Maui will host its sixth annual Build-A-Thon on Saturday, Oct. 24.
This event brings community and business volunteers together to build homes for families in need.
This year, Habitat for Humanity Maui will renovate two homes in the Hawaiian Homes subdivision of Paukukalo. The 50-year-old homes will be completely gutted prior to the Build-A-Thon day.
Come Oct. 24, the homes will be ready for volunteers — individuals and teams — to work alongside Habitat for Humanity representatives on the renovations.
Habitat for Humanity seeks skilled workers to provide a long list of important tasks, including framing (rolling roof trusses and sheeting roof), finish carpentry (installing windows and trim), roofing (installation of composition roof material), painting (gable ends, fascia and trim), plumbing (rough in) and electrical (rough electrical wiring).
“If you’re looking to give to our community, we encourage you to support Habitat for Humanity by participating in this year’s Build-A-Thon,” said Darryl Banks of Betsill Builders, a HFH board member.
“Teams will be organized to work in shifts and on specific projects starting at 6 a.m. There’s definitely a lot of work, and this is a great opportunity for individuals and groups to invest community service hours.”
Call Banks at 264-1777 to register skilled workers — individuals and teams.
Habitat for Humanity (www.habitat-maui.org) also needs non-skilled volunteers to provide general labor, from painting to support services. To register, call Melissa Mauliloa at (808) 893-0334.
